7.21.19, Day 8: Casper, WY —> Moran, WY (Grand Tetons National Park) • 323 miles (driving), 8.4 miles (hiking) • 12 hrs 40 min • 7:33 am departure, 5:39 pm arrival • states traveled through: WY •
the nature continues (AKA no cell service, hence the delayed post)... the mountains are calling and we must go! yesterday, we spent the morning driving to the Grand Tetons just in time to fit in a 8.5 mile hike from the Death Canyon trail head in the afternoon. The hike led us to Phelps Lake and the Historic Patrol Cabin, and we even saw some wildlife along the way, a few marmots and a moose!! (seemed only fitting that we had a moose sighting in Moose, WY. Also first time seeing a moose in the wild for me! Bucket list: ✔️).
Post-hike, we were starving. @asouthwo found the one place that had a gluten free menu in the Tetons (🙌) and we shoveled some delicious, locally-sourced food down with a view of Jackson Lake at sunset. .
Next, we headed to Buffalo Valley Ranch, where we called Tepee #2 home for the evening. 10/10 would recommend. The views of the Tetons at sunset/sunrise were breathtaking & the cherry on top was that there were hot showers!
one thing that I love that Alan and I share is our ability to go with the flow and wear rose-colored glasses. We had read some pretty terrible reviews about the Ranch, but we went into the experience with an open mind, and it was one of the best camping experiences I’ve ever had. To the people who demanded electricity in their tepee... perhaps some perspective is needed on expectations vs reality. To me, life is an adventure, so one night without electricity is nbd, especially when so many live without it everyday. just reminds me to be grateful for every experience and every day. Guess that’s what the great outdoors does: puts things into perspective.
