We are so proud of our Harris School Prom Ambasador @ameli.a.k for her latest achievement. Such a hard working lovely girl who works so hard to promote anti bullying and be a role model to others. We know you have a very bright future ahead of you Amelia, keep up the good work and best of luck with the rest of your exams ❤️ "A DEDICATED young cadet from Rugby has been appointed to represent The Queen in Warwickshire.
Cadet Sergeant Amelia Kerber of the Rugby Troop of the Army Cadet Force was awarded the title role of Lord-Lieutenant Cadet by Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire Timothy Cox.
The 16-year-old will assist Mr Cox in his role as Her Majesty’s representative in the county.
Amelia said it was a shock to find out about her new role.
She said: “At the same time, I was excited as I was aware of how much of a privilege it is. I have already attended one event with the Lord Lieutenant, and I am very much looking forward to others.”
She joined the Army Cadet Force in 2015 and describes it as the best decision she has ever made.
“It has shaped me into a responsible and sensible individual.
“I have gained experience and skills which will help me not only now but also in the future.
“I’ve met a lot of people with whom I’ve shared some of the best experiences – which is one of the best rewards you can get.
“However I have realised that the most awarding thing is to have the trust of, and be the role model for, the younger cadets.”
It is a role to which the Harris Academy Head Girl is accustomed, as she volunteers her own time to tutor younger pupils at the school.
She also helps her fellow students with issues such as bullying and mental health and, having created and performed an anti-bullying assembly in front of the school’s 750 students, plans to introduce a mentoring programme to tackle the issues.
“Being a teenager, the issues are very close to my heart.
“I’m sure everyone has experienced some kind of bullying, and I know how upsetting it is to go through these things on your own.
“The aim of my actions is to remind people there’s always someone to listen and care.”
