I am starting to get into this vacation mode. 🕺 Yesterday was chore day, today was back to school shopping day. 👨‍🎓 Boldly went into Walmart this morning with a list of items to pick up. All I can say about that is that it’s done. 😂 After that, I started packing some stuff for our trip to Florida. We are going to visit Universal, but mostly for the Wizarding World. The kids are all into Harry Potter and as a result so are Geralyn and me. I took a test awhile back on the Pottermore website which sorted me into Slytherin house. 🐍 Has anyone else done this sorting test? A year ago I was scared to get up in front of a microphone and talk in front of 150 friends. Public speaking wasn’t my strong suit. I always feared when I was bigger that people would not respect my words or take them seriously because of my weight. Often times, this happens in our society. ▫️ • It took me a while to accept the master of ceremonies (MC) role because I was scared. I was never going to say no, but I still had that fear that I was going to be judged or not taken seriously even after my weight loss transformation. ▫️ • I realize now that to overcome these fears you have to just jump straight in feet first. To be different tomorrow, start today - it’ll only be scary if you let it to be scary. It’s important to know that you always have value, no matter what you look like or who you are. I wish I didn’t take so long to overcome this fear but it has allowed me to be more comfortable with public speaking. It sometimes takes baby steps. I was able to practice speaking about my journey in front of my running group and then a podcast, which was a huge step for me and accomplishment for me.▫️ • So here is a toast to everyone that is struggling with something whether it may be public speaking, body image, scared to enter that race, whatever it may be - this post is for you. We all have fears, just remember you’re not alone. Some struggles and fears are worse than others but to overcome them and then persevere will become very worth it for yourself in the long run. ▫️ • And yes I brought a freaking toaster to my speech. So, on my story I wrote how my keys to success on my fitness journey were weights, water, determination and of course Amerrickan. It may seem funny that out of all these things, my final one is a clothing brand, but it's not just the brand. When I first began beachbody my coach asked me, what is my motivation was. I responded, I want to look my best when I go on vacation and the biggest thing was to be confident for the day I finally meet @zacharymerrick. I want to be able to go up to him and hold a conversation and to thank him for inspiring me to make a healthy change and to reevaluate my former lifestyle. Hello world!! So I decided to mark this year of roller coaster I would do a little post! There is 1 year in between the first (95lbs) and last picture. Yes! The middle picture is from about 3 months ago. Recovery has been a roller coaster for me. From losing all my strenght, couldn’t even squat 95lbs by the end, to learning how to eat again to eating anything and everything all day because of meds to help me gain weight and be healthy again. One day, three months ago, I decided I had to stop taking the meds to see where I was really at with my recovery. Looking at my body I was discouraged! I’ve never been this fluffy in my whole life, living close to 170lbs. I stopped the meds for a while, that didn’t do it, and now I’m back on one of them and... I feel AMAZING!! I’ve never felt this good in my whole life in my body! Embracing my 145lbs!!! Well, I can't say this is one of the healthiest meals I've ever made, but it was pretty delicious. I have a weird week ahead, with several lunch and dinner meetings, so cooking a full meal plan didn't make sense. To accommodate this, I've opted to cook a few smaller meals, so I'll be enjoying plenty of variety for a change. This is a bit of a recreation of a dish my honestly mama would make when one as in Ghana (minus the pork!). It was one of those meals where there were never leftovers! To make it a bit healthier, I also threw in extra veggies. Doing so did not detract from the nostalgia factor involved - it's the first time I've made this dish that it actually tasted like Mama made! I have enough for my lunch tomorrow and then tomorrow night I'll switch it up, but return to a healthier spread! This KB flow caught my attention recently when @waafiq posted it. I liked the way it flows and wondered if I would be able to drop into the windmill type position at speed under load. Definitely not a beginner move but I would enjoy the challenge. . So I started practicing with 8kg and it highlighted a shoulder/thoracic ROM deficit on my left side straight away. I was finding it harder to drop into the windmill with the left arm up and using more leverage of the inside of my knee to achieve it. . I moved to 12kg and then 16kg and added a bottom under press and it's got better with practice. Even the rotation has opened up a bit. LEG WORKKKK ! Tag a friend and save for later ! who doesn’t love a good leg day!this workout targets quads, hams and glutes. So everything other than calves. I’ve been focusing a little more on hamstrings and glutes recently so I decided to do quads at the start of this workout to hit them hard as they haven’t had as much work recently. When structuring your workouts, try and prioritise the muscles that need more work then others! 💪🏼⁣ ⁣ WORKOUT: ⁣ 1⃣ barbell jack squat 3 x 15⁣ This exercise is a quad focused exercise. I love this variation, it’s great if you don’t have a hack squat machine!⁣ ⁣ 2⃣ forward lunges 3 x 12⁣ Forward lunges are quad focused, backward lunges are usually more hamstring focused. I like this exercise as it ensures each leg is worked just as hard as the other.⁣ ⁣ 3⃣ dumbbell sumo squat 4 x 10⁣ One of my favourites for targeting the glutes. Push through the heels and squeeze your glutes at the top! ⁣ ⁣ 4⃣ seated hamstring curl 4 x10⁣ Holding each rep at the contraction point (the squeeze) is a great way to develop and increase the ‘mind muscle’ connection. It’s a killer!⁣ ⁣ 5️⃣ single leg RDL 3 x 10⁣ A very effective exercise for targeting the glutes and hamstrings! Perform the movement back pushing the hips backward to stretch the hamstring. Drive the hips back in and squeeeeeze those glutes! ⁣ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
